Project Management Professional (PMP)®

Exam PMP

Aligned with PMI PMBOK® 7th Edition: predictive, agile, and hybrid project frameworks, governance, and team leadership.

Course overview

PMP is the most portable project management credential in the world, and the current exam is not the one most people prepare for. Since 2021 it has been organised around PMI's Examination Content Outline — People, Process and Business Environment — with roughly half the questions set in agile or hybrid environments rather than predictive ones. This programme teaches to that outline. It also covers the application itself, which is where a surprising number of candidates stall: PMI requires documented project experience and 35 contact hours before you may sit the exam, and this course supplies the contact hours.

Skills you'll gain

  • Lead and build a project team, including virtual and cross-cultural teams
  • Manage conflict, negotiate agreements and remove blockers
  • Select and tailor predictive, agile or hybrid delivery approaches
  • Build and maintain scope, schedule, budget and quality baselines
  • Identify, analyse and respond to risk quantitatively and qualitatively
  • Manage procurement, contracts and vendor relationships
  • Engage stakeholders and manage communications deliberately
  • Apply governance, compliance and organisational change principles

Learning outcomes

  1. 01Choose a delivery approach that fits the project rather than defaulting to a familiar one
  2. 02Build a realistic schedule and defend it against pressure with data
  3. 03Run a risk process that produces decisions rather than a register nobody reads
  4. 04Handle a team conflict scenario the way the exam — and PMI — expects
  5. 05Assemble a compliant PMP application, including the experience descriptions
  6. 06Sit the PMP exam across all three ECO domains and both delivery approaches

Frequently asked

Does this course make me eligible to sit the PMP exam?

It provides the 35 contact hours PMI requires. It cannot provide the project leadership experience — that is 36 months with a four-year degree, or 60 months without one, and PMI verifies it.

Is PMP still based on the PMBOK Guide?

Not directly. Since 2021 the exam follows the Examination Content Outline. PMBOK 7th Edition informs the material but studying it alone is not sufficient, and studying PMBOK 6th Edition alone would leave you badly under-prepared on agile.

How much of the exam is agile?

Around half of the questions are set in agile or hybrid contexts. Candidates from a purely predictive background usually find this the hardest adjustment.

What if my application is audited?

PMI audits a proportion of applications at random. You will need signatures from supervisors on the experience you claimed. We cover how to describe experience accurately so that an audit is straightforward.

Should I take CAPM instead?

If you do not yet have the required project leadership experience, yes. CAPM has no experience requirement and is designed for exactly that situation.
